Tips to loose weight as a call center agent

In the first few months of working for a call center, there are two things that can happen to your body: you loose weight or or gain weight. Most often, people tend to gain weight. With the call center lifestyle, it can be quite difficult to loose it. Here are some tips on how to do that while still being a call center agent:

Take note of what you eat

A call center agent is exposed to a lot of stress. The most common coping mechanism is eating. A lot. When you reach out for that slice of pizza, ask yourself this very important question: Are you really hungry or are you eating because you’re stressed or bored? You will see the difference once you sort out what you need from what you want. If you’re really truly under stress, find an alternative to cope with that. A hobby or exercising is a good start.

It’s also important to take note of what and how much you are eating. To better guide you, write them down.  Make a food diary. You should be at all times conscious of your intake. This will most definitely help you loose weight.

Avoid too much sugar, caffeine and junk food

Sugar, coffee, diet sodas, regular sodas, energy shots and junk food are usually the most accessible food a call center agent can get. Battling the night shift also tends to look towards these to combat that drowsiness. Eating in moderation is good but as much as possible, eat as little of these as you can. Not only do they pack in a lot of hard to burn off calories, they also lead to diabetes and a whole host of other diseases.

There are different alternatives to help you be awake. Green tea, whole grain snacks, fruits and vegetables are available. Make it a habit to bring your own snacks instead of buying them at convenient stores or at the pantry.

Take time to exercise

You have to burn off that excess weight. It’s tough but there’s no way around it. This is perhaps one of the key elements to not only loose weight but maintain a healthy lifestyle overall.

Always allot some time to exercise. Even if it’s just 2 hours a week, it makes a difference. You can even do it at your desk. There are plenty of exercises that can be done at your desk or during your breaks. Don’t make excuses. Just do it.

Eat the right food at the right time

It’s not enough that you exercise. You can exercise all you want but can still gain weight. The ratio is 60% diet, 20% exercise and 20% rest. Eating the right kind of food is crucial. Don’t overindulge nor skip meals. Skipping meals can cause you to overeat in you next one.

Never starve yourself. Don’t feel guilty if you’re hungry. Eat. But eat the right kind of food, instead. It’s really hard to say on what to eat exactly because every individual requires a different kind of nutrition. Consult with your physician on which you should concentrate on.

Get enough sleep

The body needs rest. That is a universal truth that all of us know most especially for call center agents. Make sure to clock in at least 7-8 hours of sleep a day. No amount of energy drinks or coffee can substitute for a good night’s sleep. In sleep, the body recharges all the bodily functions that we have. It helps regulate blood pressure and gives energy to our brains. It’s like a restart button for our bodies.


Loosing weight is not easy. It’s a lifestyle change. If you want to loose and maintain your weight, you have to be ready to commit to the change.
