There are a lot of people who are hesitant to work for a call center because it’s tough. This is actually not the case. It’s all about balance. Below are some call center survival tips that can not only help you through call center life but excel in it as well.
1. Take care of your health
The key to call center survival or anything at all, is to stay on top of your health. Both physically and mentally. Once we take care of our mind and body, everything else will easily follow.
Get enough sleep.
According to a study conducted by the National Sleep Foundation, adults aged between 17-64 years old should get 7-9 hours of sleep. No more, no less. Getting too little or too much is not good for the body. They also recommend that you should stick to a sleeping schedule even on your day offs. It’s important that you not fluctuate your sleep times because this can cause damage to your body long-term.
Eat the right food.
The food we consume determines our overall health and longevity of our lives. It’s too easy to fall into the call center staple of fast food, caffeine, alcohol and junk food but should avoid these as much as possible. Take note that the more processed a certain food is, the worse it is for our health. Working in a call center requires demanding hours and a lot of stress. Smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol is also generally not advised by doctors.
Exercise should be a habit, not something that we attempt to do once in a while. A lot of call center agents are guilty of choosing sleep over working out their bodies. This should not be the case. There are hundreds of easy exercises that can be done over a short period of time. Taking care of your mental health is just important as your physical health. Depression and other mental disorders are quite common while working for a call center. A good way to avoid this is to change your outlook in life. 2. Set goals and stick with them
A good call center survival tip is to set clear goals for yourself. Challenging yourself to do better can motivate you work and last longer as an agent. Take note of what your supervisors say about your performance and improve on it.
Start with the little things.
Simple things like following your schedule and hitting your daily required statistics are a good foundation in call center survival. If you conquer these small achievements every day, the bigger ones will seem less frightening and quite achievable.
Don’t make excuses.
Make sure to always keep yourself on track and stick with your goals. Change your mindset to “how can I make this better”. There are times when we convince ourselves that we can’t do certain things. Ask yourself if this is truly the case or are there other reasons why you don’t want to do a particular task. If it’s fairly easy and achievable, it’s best to get over it and simply do it.
Don’t compare yourself to others.
We all have our own pace. It’s true that working in a call center requires you to do your work at a certain standard but you should never compare your performance to others. Compete with only yourself. You’ll find that you can be better at call center survival and have less stress when you focus only on what you’re doing instead of what others are. Choose your own battles, too. If it’s not important or if it’s not parallel to what you want to achieve then don’t give exert extra effort. You are stressed enough as it is. Don’t add anymore additional weight.
3. Have a good work-life balance
Don’t let your work define your life. Taking some quality time for yourself is beneficial for you, your company and everybody around you. It is important to know what is important. Balance is the key. Have a little of both your work life and private life. It’s not easy but giving time for your loved ones and your own well-being is always worth it.
Give time for yourself.
Create a space where you are separated from work to relax your mind. Having some “me” time can boost your mental health. A nice pampering at the spa can also be good once in a while. There are some people who recommend meditating to improve your overall outlook in life. This can help you improve your productivity at work as well.
Have a social life.
Humans are social beings. We need to interact with other people. Meeting with friends and family can give us a refreshing a take on the world. It’s always a good idea to spend as much time as you can with the people you love. This can also be an outlet for stress. Not only is it good for you emotionally but a lot of fun as well.
Find a good hobby. People who have hobbies tend to be happier than those who don’t. If you focus on only your work, you will develop illnesses pretty quickly.
