This year, NICP announced that Tacloban City and the Province of Leyte will be the host of the 8th National ICT Summit on November 10 and 11, 2016
About 500 to 600 delegates are expected to attend the summit including industry officials, local government units, academe, and private sector representatives, among others.
Sa-a said the summit hopes to bring together champions of the ICT from public and private sectors to share industry trends and development, understand the challenges, identify and collaborate on ways forward to promote ICT tools and solutions for LGUs, ICT industry development, generate new investments and create new jobs for the cities outside of Metro Manila for inclusive countryside development.
Lawyer Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, executive director of Bacolod-Negros Occidental Federation for ICT, said Cebu has been a “model” for other Visayan cities in the development of their ICT and BPO industries.
She said manpower woes are among the challenges in the development because most workers go to Manila or Cebu.
She added that there is a need to create opportunities in cities such as Bacolod, Iloilo, Davao and Clark.
Bacolod, for example, has now 24,000 occupations in ICT-BPO and produce about P3 billion a year as far as pay, Sigue said.
Sa-an additionally said that in regards to 300,000 occupations of the aggregate 1.3 million occupations in the ICT-BPO across the country are found outside of Manila, and that the business is hoping to expand the wide open job in the following years.
